Hello from Q-FARM!

Before getting too deep into our May newsletter I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I’m Jon Simon — many of you will recognize me as the guy who guards the food at the Q-FARM seminar. Patrick felt I was doing such a good job as food guard that he passed me the reins, so I am now Q-FARM’s director. I am really enjoying working with all of you to cultivate a lively and interactive community pushing the bounds of our understanding of quantum mechanics and its applications; much more to come! With that out of the way:

I’m delighted to share the news of the inaugural Shoucheng Zhang Conference for Quantum Science and Engineering.

In celebration of our growing community, we are happy to share Spotlights! Get to know Applied Physics PhD students Agnetta Cleland and Brendan P. Marsh. We will continue to add Spotlights! and hope they inspire others.

Welcome to the 2023 Bloch Fellows, Tamara Kohler and Giovanni Scuri.

Last, but not least, we share the bittersweet news that Lancy Nazaroff, Q-FARM’s Program Manager is moving on to a new opportunity within the university. Please join us in congratulating her on this wonderful promotion! Please also offer a warm welcome to Nilendri Senanayake, our new Q-FARM Program Manager.

Do you have an idea or suggestion? We’d love to hear it! Please connect with us at qfarm-contact@stanford.edu, or drop by my office in Varian!
