Q-FARM's Newest Interdisciplinary Faculty, Charlotte Boettcher

Charlotte grew up in Odense, Denmark and received her B.A. degree in physics from the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen. Her research was focused on condensed matter problems including studying phenomena related to quantum phase transitions in two-dimensional arrays of Josephson junctions. She then moved to the US where she completed her Ph.D. in physics at Harvard University. Here she worked on hybrid material systems and their applications for both quantum information and quantum sensing. Her thesis was centered on developing new probes of unconventional superconductivity in mesoscopic and low-dimensional material systems by adapting techniques from superconducting quantum information science.

After finishing her Ph.D., she moved to Yale University as a postdoctoral researcher where she continued to pursue her interests in hybrid material systems, superconducting quantum computing, and quantum phase transitions. Charlotte is currently setting up her lab and will join the faculty in January 2025 as an assistant professor of Applied Physics.

Charlotte says she is looking forward to engaging with the community, students, and colleagues. She believes this is where new great ideas will happen, and is excited to be surprised, learn, and start exciting research programs across many fields including quantum computing, material science, and quantum sensing.
