Title: Towards ultra-high-rate quantum error correction
Abstract: Reducing the qubit overhead of quantum error correction is a central challenge for scalable fault-tolerant quantum computing. In this talk, I will first present systematic principles for designing ultra-high-rate quantum codes and navigating the tradeoffs among encoding rate, distance, check weight, and blocklength. Using new code templates and transformations, we identify compact constructions and show how increasing column weight can improve error-correction performance despite heavier checks. I will then discuss a family of codes with encoding rates exceeding one half that supports efficient syndrome extraction and atom rearrangement in reconfigurable neutral atom arrays under realistic parallel control constraints. Combining these constructions with hierarchical decoding, circuit-level simulations demonstrate low logical error rates approaching the teraquop regime. These results connect systematic code design with hardware-efficient implementation toward low-overhead quantum error correction.
Research interests: quantum computing, quantum simulation, trapped ions
